Our New York business studies trip explores the city's development over the past century which saw it welcome the largest human migration in history. We explore the downtown financial district of Wall Street and the World Trade Centre and can discover the gold vaults at the Federal Reserve Bank.
School Business Studies Trip to New York
The President might direct events from Washington DC, but it is New York that is at the wheel of the American economy. Manhattan and the Downtown financial district is where you find Wall Street, the Federal Reserve and the numerous banks and financial institutions which are located in and around the World Trade Centre. On our tour you will learn what it is to be a Wall Street insider, as well as seeing many of the city's iconic sights such the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and the Brooklyn Bridge.

Day 1
Flight to New York - Times Square and 42nd Street
Flight to New York: You will be met by your guide and private transport and transfer into the heart of Manhattan and your central hotel.
Times Square: Before dinner you explore Times Square and 42nd Street which will introduce you to the hustle and bustle of New York. Along with the highrise buildings and big department stores, Times Square is the centre of New York’s theatre district.
Top of the Rock: After dinner you take a trip to Rockefeller Plaza and the highspeed elevator to the Top of the Rock for a sensational night-time view of the city the never sleeps.
Day 2
Wall Street Insider Tour, Ground Zero and the Statue of Liberty
Wall Street Insider Tour: Guided by real Wall Street insiders, you will see world-famous financial landmarks such as the New York Stock Exchange, the Federal Reserve Bank, the Charging Bull and Wall Street itself. During the course of the tour the guides will regale you with their insider stories that will definitely entertain you! There is also a short Wall Street Trading Game which tests your financial acumen.
Ground Zero: You continue with a visit to Ground Zero and the 9/11 Memorial Plaza where you see the various sites associated with the September 11 attacks. The Reflecting Absence Memorial features two enormous waterfalls above reflecting pools set in the footprints of the original World Trade Centre Twin Towers.
Statue of Liberty: After time for lunch you take the ferry to Statue Island to see the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty is one of the most famous American icons. Originally a gift from France, it was meant to symbolise the political freedom and democracy which had been won during the Civil War. You will have access to the grounds at Liberty Island and access to inside the base of the Statue of Liberty where you can explore the Museum. You then continue to Ellis Island where you will visit the Immigration Museum which records the important role this island had in the processing most of the immigrants to the USA during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Bubba Gump: Dinner is at Bubba Gump on 7th Avenue and in the evening, you can head to Broadway to see a hit musical.
Day 3
Macy's Tour, Empire State Building, Brooklyn Bridge and the Lower East Side
Macy’s Store: In the morning you visit the iconic Macy’s Store on Herald Square. The tour covers fashion and merchandising, presenting product collections and discussing business-related topics, including window and mannequin displays, store signage and electronic product codes.
Empire State Building: After lunch you take a trip to the Observation Deck on the 86th floor of the Empire State Building for an iconic day time panorama of New York. Perhaps the most famous sky scrapper in the world, construction started in 1930 which makes the building over 90 years old. From the Observation Deck you have a sensational view of the Hudson and East Rivers, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty and Central Park.
Brooklyn Bridge Walk: Back at street level, you visit Grand Central Station and then your guide will escort you by subway across the river to Brooklyn for a view of the city’s most iconic bridge. The skyline view of New York from Brooklyn Bridge Park is unforgettable, and after taking photos you can walk the pedestrian walkway across the bridge and back into Lower Manhattan. This is a boardwalk which runs above the traffic and so there are no cars to worry about. Spend your time on this and savour the views.
Lower East Side: Back in Manhattan you will have time to explore the streets of the Lower East Side, one of New York’s most authentic districts with its historic tenement buildings. Once the home to New York’s Jewish immigrant community, the area is now home to China Town and there is an eclectic and vibrant blend of cultures.
Hard Rock Café: Dinner this evening is at the Hard Rock Café on Times Square.
Day 4
Federal Reserve Bank, High Line, Hudson Yards and Fifth Avenue
Federal Reserve Bank: This morning you return to the Financial District and take the guided tour of the Federal Reserve Bank. You learn about the role of the New York Fed and Federal Reserve System in setting monetary policy, promoting financial stability, and advancing economic growth. You also see how they control and print money, so it is always available across the country. The real highlight is when you descended into the gold vault, learning about the complex operation of the vault doors, and then walking through them to see the gold bars. Each bar is worth half a million dollars! The tour lasts an hour and at the end you get a small bag of shredded dollars as a souvenir.
High Line: The day continues with a fascinating walk along the High Line. This is a successful regeneration project that has turned an abandoned city railway line into an elevated garden walk through the Chelsea district. Start by the Whitney Museum of American Art and finish at Hudson Yards.
Fifth Avenue: In the afternoon you can sped time shopping on Fifth Avenue, and perhaps take a look at the bling inside Trump Tower.
Flight Home: You have free time for final shopping and dinner before transferring to the airport for your homeward flight.
Day 5
Arrive Home
Arrive Home: Your flight arrives home this morning.
