Frankfurt is at the heart of the European Union's financial system and is home to the European Central Bank (ECB) which is the central bank of the Eurozone countries. Although Berlin is the political capital of Germany, Frankfurt is the economic capital and is home to many of Germany's leading businesses and manufacturing industries. It is also the country's financial capital with the Deutsche Börse being one of the world's principal share and securities trading floors. Indeed Frankfurt's DAX index is as globally recognisable as London's FTSE. The city also lies close to the beautiful Moselle River valley with its picturesque villages and vineyards which can be enjoyed during the tour.

Day 1
Fly to Frankfurt. Walking Tour of the Old Town
Flight to Frankfurt: On arrival you are met by your private coach and guide:
Walking Tour: In the afternoon you have a guided walking tour of the Old Town starting at the historic Römerberg Market Square. The square is surrounded by traditional painted half-timbered buildings, as well as the Römer building which has been the city hall since the 15th century. Despite extensive damage from Allied bombing during the Second World War, the Römerberg’s unique architecture has been painstakingly restored. In the centre of the square in front of the Römer you can see the Fountain of Justice which dates back to 1543. This bronze statue depicts Justitia, the Roman goddess of justice, armed with her sword and scales.
Day 2
Frankfurt Stock Exchange, Deutsche Bundesbank Money Museum & Main Tower
Frankfurt Stock Exchange: This morning you visit the Frankfurt Stock Exchange which houses the famous trading floor and the Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This tour gives students an understanding of the topics of foreign currency and equities trading with interactive exhibitions. From the viewing gallery you can look over Frankfurt Stock Exchange’s large trading floor with the DAX board.
Deutsche Bundesbank and Money Museum: After lunch you visit the Deutsche Bundesbank for a lecture about the German Central Bank. Afterwards you visit the Money Museum located at the Bundesbank’s Central Office where the exhibition focus is on the history of money from its historical origins, the development of coins and notes, and the development of central banks. There is also a section about counterfeit money and how to identify real notes and coins.
Main Tower: In the afternoon you take a trip to the top of the Main Tower, a 200 metre high skyscraper that is home to various banks, financial institutions and law firms. The viewing platform is the highest in the city with a spectacular 360 degree panorama.
Day 3
European Central Bank & Eintracht Frankfurt Stadium Tour
European Central Bank: This morning you visit the European Central Bank, situated in the famous Euro Tower Building, where you can learn about the ECB and its role, functions and mission. The Visitor Centre focuses on how the ECB maintains price stability, how it promotes financial stability, and its role in developing payment systems and the supplying banknotes.
NB. Subject to permissions and availability the ECB will often tailor a lecture for school groups but this cannot be guaranteed.
Stadium Tour: This afternoon you travel by private coach to the Deutsche Bank Park Stadium, the home of football team Eintracht Frankfurt, one of the Bundesliga’s oldest football clubs. The club has won the German Cup five times. You have a stadium tour which explores the history of the Frankfurt “Eagles”. The guided tour takes an intimate look behind the scenes of the stadium.
Day 4
Gutenberg Museum & Rudesheim - Flight Home
Gutenberg Museum: This morning you travel to the city of Mainz where you visit the Gutenberg Museum. Located in the hometown of Johannes Gutenberg, the founder of the printing press, this museum displays a recreation of his original printing press.
Rudesheim: You continue to the beautiful town of Rudesheim on the River Rhine. Rudesheim is the gateway to the wine growing region of the Rhine Valley and Mosel and is particularly known for its Riesling Wine. You can explore the quaint picture-postcard streets with colourful half-timbered buildings. You also take the Rudesheim Seilbahn – the small cable car which takes you from the town across acres of vineyards to the spectacular viewpoint at Niederwald where there are wonderful views across the River Rhine.
Flight Home: In the afternoon you transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
