Cathedral and Tomb of Christopher Columbus: After lunch we visit the historic Seville Cathedral which contains the tomb of Christopher Columbus. Seville is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and after discovering this magnificent church, climb the Giralda Tower for spectacular views across the city.
Barrio Santa Cruz: In the afternoon you can explore the Barrio Santa Cruz which was the old Jewish quarter of the city, and which retains much of its history. This is the perfect place to practise your language skills in the cafes and craft shops.
Plaza de España: In the evening take a stroll in the Plaza de España. Although it looks old, it was actually built in 1929 and today is one of the city’s most beautiful and iconic landmarks. You can take a boat ride down the canal or a horse-drawn carriage ride through the square.
Day 2
Seville Royal Alcazar, Mercado de Triana and Metropol Parasol
Royal Alcazar: This morning you visit the Réal Alcazar, the most visited attraction in Seville. There is a blend of architectural styles with many influences from both Moorish and Christian cultures.
Mercado de Triana: You continue across the River at the Mercado de Triana, an historic and characterful market selling fruit and vegetables, meat and cheeses.
Metropol Parasol: This afternoon you visit the Metropol Parasol (the Setas de Sevilla), one of the world’s largest wooden structures and basically an installation art-work. The structure is about 150 metres in length and is formed by six separate parasols which are connected together.
Day 3
Travel to Cordoba. Juderia, Alcazar and the Roman Bridge
Travel to Cordoba: This morning you travel to Cordoba which takes around 90 minutes
Juderia: After time for lunch you explore the historic Jewish quarter known as the Juderia.
Alcazar: This afternoon you visit the beautiful gardens of the Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos which are again laid out in the traditional Moorish style.
Roman Bridge: In the evening you can visit the historic Roman Bridge where there are often musicians and live music.
Day 4
The Mezquita. Flight home from Seville
Mezquita: This morning you visit the incredible Mezquita which was originally a Mosque built by the Moorish rulers of Andalusia. When the Moors were expelled from Spain, a Cathedral was built on the site, but the fantastic architecture of the Moors was preserved. If you wish to climb the adjacent Bell Tower for a spectacular view across the city, you must queue and buy tickets on the spot as there is no advance reservation system. However, this is well worthwhile as the views are stunning.
Flight Home: After lunch you return by road to Seville and your homeward flight.
